Spending the first night in your new home is an exciting, but often exhausting experience. There are so many little details to think about that usually get overlooked. “What box did I pack my phone charger in?” is one of the top panic-filled questions many homeowners ask themselves after a long day of moving (and usually can’t remember the answer to).
To make sure that the first night in your new home is as stress-free as possible, we’ve put together some helpful tips and taken the guess-work out of the age-old question: “What do I need to pack for the first night in my new home?”
Make a ‘First Night’ box
You’ll want to pack all of the items that we go over into a box labeled ‘First Night Box’ and load it as the very last box onto the moving truck. This way, it’ll be the first box you take off the truck and open when you get to your new home.
What to pack in your ‘First Night’ box
Here’s a general checklist of what you’ll need for your first night in your new home:
- Basic cleaning supplies: rags, dish soap, hand soap, gloves, paper towels, and general cleaners for windows, floors, and countertops.
- Mini tool kit with a couple hammers, screwdrivers, nails, screws, pliers, a rechargeable drill, small level.
- Extra flashlights & batteries
- Paper plates, plastic silverware, napkins, and plastic cups that make for an easy cleanup
- Clean bed linens, toilet paper and towels
- Chargers for your phones, laptops, tablets, other technological devices you use on a daily basis
